Growth and International Expansion Support
Growth and international expansion are hard.
They become especially expensive when the business moves into a new market before marketing has created a reason for people there to know or trust it.
Most companies that expand internationally are already good at selling. The problem is that much of what makes selling easier at home - reputation, referrals, familiar customers and an established position - does not travel with them.
Triumph B2B helps build that missing layer around the commercial team, while also looking at the wider growth question: which markets, customers and opportunities are actually worth pursuing.
Where we help
- Market selection and entry sequencing
- Positioning and proposition for a new market
- Demand generation and local market presence
- Field marketing, events and partnerships
- The first local hires and what stays central
- Sales and marketing alignment around target accounts
- Reporting that shows whether the expansion is actually working
Experience behind the work
I led the marketing entry into a newly regulated US market for a European B2B technology platform, taking the business from no meaningful presence to a category-leading position.
I then built marketing across further international markets, with teams and programmes spanning the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
What tends to go wrong
The most common mistake is treating market entry as a sales exercise with a marketing campaign attached. A salesperson is hired, some activity is launched and the business expects the reputation it has at home to appear quickly in the new market.
It usually takes more than that. Buyers need to see the company in the market, understand why it is relevant and hear the same story often enough for the business to feel credible.
The other common problem is spreading investment too widely. Sometimes the better growth decision is to focus on fewer markets, fewer segments or fewer propositions and give them enough support to work properly.
Planning a new market or the next stage of growth?
We can look at the commercial ambition, the markets available and what marketing needs to put in place before more money is committed.
